7th Annual Crafty Chica Cruise

The 7th Annual Crafty Chica Cruise is right around the corner. I'm super excited! This is an event where non-crafter and crafters get together and unite! Regardless how much or how little you know, we all learn new techniques, improve our techniques, and just have so much fun. Its a total chica pow-wow!

This cruise is filled with nothing but fun, indulging in delicious food, crafting, wining and dining and my favorite...

Shopping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lots of shopping! I have a thing for bags and if I see this guy walking on the beach in Ensenada, WATCH OUT!

I just love the colors and designs that the Latino culture has. I drool when I see these beautiful colors on bags, textiles, and everything that Mexico has to offer. I can't wait to see what Ensenada has to offer! Believe it or not I have never been. I can't afford to buy anything this time around but I just love being around amazing colorful art! I'm just so excited!

DIY Prayer Pouch

I've always had this thing about pouches and Scapulars.

Although two very different things, I found them to be very whimsical and personal. So one day I came up with an idea to introduce the two and make them into one. The Prayer Pouch was born. The is a unique pouch that you'll wear around your neck. But theirs something special about this pouch. On a piece of paper write down your prayer or wish. Insert it into the pouch and wear it.
Here's a tutorial I made for Valentine's Day for www.mamiverse.com. The below tutorial was made specifically for Valentines Day. You can make one for any occasion. I hope you enjoy it...
Valentine's Day POUCH NECKLACEValentine’s DIY Crafts: Magic Heart Wand & Candy Pouch Necklace
Materials
Pink or red felt
Embellishments (buttons, rhinestones, sequins, glitter, etc)
Craft glue
Ribbon
Faux leather cord for necklace
Scissors
Instructions
1. Cut two identically-sized squares of felt, as big or small as you would like to wear.
2. Glue the two sides and bottom of the pouch. Do not glue all four sides because you won’t be able to open the pouch to fill it with candy.
3. Now embellish one side of the pouch. The side that you embellish will be the front of the pouch. Use heart-shaped rhinestones, ribbon, glitter, buttons, jewels. Be creative!
4. Take the faux leather cord and make a slip knot at one end. Then glue the opposite ends to the inside edges of the pouch. Let dry for 30 minutes.
Now your pouch is ready to wear!

My Little Nook

Welcome to my new workspace. I call it, "My Little Nook". It may be a tiny space but it gives me enough space to work out of. I'm all set up and ready to go. I have my beads organized, I have my paint organized. All I need is a little space heater because its freezing in the garage.

I've got my fingerless gloves, all my tools, mi cafesito, and my inspiration all ready to go. I wonder if they still have heaters on sale? I'm starting to see summer stuff in stores now. I better hit the stores soon. Thank God pay day is next week...

DIY Valentine's Day Wand Tutorial

Every year, our kids celebrate Valentine’s Day with cute little cards and candy. Why not have them spread extra love with these sweet, colorful projects that you can do together. Your kids will feel extra special on Valentine’s Day when they wear one of these cute little candy pouches or wave the magic wand they made all by themselves—with a little help from you, of course. Suitable for ages 5 and up.

MAGIC HEART WAND
Materials
Wooden dowel
Pink or red felt
Embellishments (buttons, rhinestones, sequins, glitter, etc)
Craft glue
Hot glue gun
Cotton balls or pillow stuffing
Ribbon
Scissors
Instructions
1. Begin by cutting 2 medium heart-shaped pieces from the felt. Make sure both hearts are about the same size.
2. Carefully hot glue the edges of the heart pieces together, leaving 1 to 2 inches at the bottom open so that you can stuff it.
3. Have your little one stick the cotton balls into the felt heart. Make sure it’s nice and puffy. (Use the stick to push the cotton in.)
4. Insert the stick about 2 inches into the felt heart and add hot glue to seal the bottom and around the dowel.
5. Using craft glue, have your child decorate the heart with all the embellishments she wants. The more bling, the better!
6. Let your child tie long ribbons around the stick at the base of the heart.
7. Set aside so the embellishments dry.
Once dry, your little one is ready to go spread the love with Cupid’s wand!

Introducing " Cafe con Lizzy "

Hi Everyone! Many of you know me as "La Chillona" (one who cries a lot). And many of you know that name was a great fit for me. I even had a blog named "Arte by La Chillona", however this little lady accidentally deleted said blog! Der!! So now I am starting up a new blog to replace the one I deleted.

At first I was horrified! But I'm kinda thinking this was more of a blessing in disguise. I've been contemplating for a while now about dropping La Chillona, but thats all I've done is contemplate. I used to be someone who  cried when I was happy, when I was sad, and when I was mad. I cried for everything. LOL. The way I came to be "La Chillona" was because I was trying to find a name for myself in the Craft industry. My ex husband actually came up with the name but I thought it was brilliant!  It had a really good ring to it so I decided to make it my Artist name.

In the last year and a half, life challenged me. Really hard! I separated from my husband, I lost two jobs, had to move in with my parents (which I've been told would make a great reality show), and other life stuff. But all these things made me grow. It helped me realize the many things I took for granted. Most importantly I realized how unhappy I was in life and decided to take action to making a better life for my son and myself. I found strength that I never knew I had. When I thought I was just about to die, I found the strength to pick myself up and keep going. I had an overwhelming support from my Facebook family. I will always be grateful to them for being there and for putting up with all my ranting. Well my point is that with Life's challenges something beautiful blossomed. Me! I started noticing that when I was sad, I wasn't crying. I was looking for a solution. When I was mad, I was taking action and when I was happy, I was enjoying the moment. I wasn't crying anymore. I haven't cried in such a long time! Now there's been times where I told myself it was ok to cry, but I couldn't. I always found the silver lining. So my whole point is that La Chillona isn't who I am anymore. La Chillona was like a caterpillar who blossomed into a butterfly and spread her wings and took to the sky!

So you see, maybe this was all meant to be. Its a new chapter. A new beginning. A new ME! With that said I introduce to you, Cafe con Lizzy. I dedicate this blog to all things Inspirational. A place where we can all get inspired through crafting, life experiences, art, laughter, friends, oh and most importantly COFFEE!!! I love COFFEE!!!!

So in closing I will leave you with this: Life will never be a bowl a cherries. However with every obstacle there is triumph, if you chose not to give up.

Good night my friends! Thank you for letting me share this with you. Till we meet again...

Cafesito y Besitos!
